The woodland garden has magnolias, ferns and tree ferns, stumpery as at Highgrove, stream fed pools and a cascade with 'Dancing Crown' fountain. Beyond this lies an Orchard, miniature Parkland of wild flower meadow overlooking the River Avon and by the Barn a cutting and salad garden. This year's intended new additions will be a Vegetable Garden, more water planting, Temple, and Plant Show 'Theatre', plus new planting schemes and pots. Designer: Julian and Isabel Bannerman Description of Garden: Stephen Lacey the Telegraph Magazine described Hanham Court thus:- "...their garden is.. unashamedly romantic, oozing scents... but the real signature is the architectural flights of fancy... despite being right down the eastern end of Bristol's suburbs... pass through the entrance gate tower and you are in another world... of art, history, children, dogs, meals alfresco, the landscape is a joy with limestone downland full of wild flowers... a wooded dell below their bastion garden flaunting stands of giant Himalayan lilies and a small forest of tree ferns..." History: Since moving to Hanham Court 15 years ago the creation of this garden has been central to Julian and Isabel's work designing private gardens across England, for clients such as the Prince of Wales. They won a Gold Medal at Chelsea in 1994 for their Telegraph 'Ruined Abbey Garden'. Some of their other gardens can be seen by the public such as Waddesdon Manor Dairy; The British Memorial Garden to 9/11 on Manhattan; 'The Collector Earl's Garden' at Arundel Castle and Houghton Hall in Norfolk - Christie's Garden of the Year 2008. Their garden at Hanham Court is quite different in style to these others. It is a design laboratory, a testing ground and a labour of love. It is very much a private garden and great effort is made to keep signs and labels to a minimum.
