The Walled Garden is divided into 30+ domestic sized themed gardens including seasons, colours and senses. Designer: Description of Garden: Greenbank House and Garden are situated in Clarkston to the south of Glasgow. The property extends to around 16 acres, the key features of which are the House (currently used as the NTS West Regional Office) and the 2.5 acres of walled garden; these are surrounded by the relict 18th century designed landscape, part of which is in NTS ownership. The walled garden is divided by hedges into a number of sections, each with its own theme or style. These are linked by grass paths to form a unified whole. The Trust has redeveloped areas of the garden each year to widen its range of interest to gardeners. The main emphasis of these changes is to increase the educational/demonstration content and thus the garden has a surprising range of features for its size, including glasshouses, ponds and a great variety of plants. A collection of over 3,400 different plant varieties is now established, and many annuals are planted each year. Particular plant groups are daffodils and other bulbs, ferns, shrub and climbing roses, flowers for drying and floral art, fuchsias and pelargoniums. The surrounding shelter planting of trees has also been developed to form a woodland garden and woodland walk. Trial garden for Consumers Association - Gardening Which? History: Greenbank House, in whose grounds the garden lies, was built in 1764/65, although the estate of Greenbank was established earlier that century. The property was presented to the Trust in 1976 by Mr and Mrs William P. Blyth who had bought it in 1961. On acquiring the property, the Trust decided to develop it as a gardening advice centre with associated garden talks and lectures being given. It has the support of a local friends group, who organise a variety of events throughout the year. Local Inns: White Cart Inn, Busby - 5/10 mins by car.
