Features: Designer: Fifth Marquess of Lansdowne Description of Garden: The most famous feature of the garden is the large number of Dicksonia Antarctica, tree ferns from South Eastern Australia and Tasmania. They seem completely at home here and self-seed freely. Myrtus Luma from Chile also self-seeds everywhere. There are huge Arboreum Rhododendrons and Cryptomeria Japonica Elegans. The Boathouse Walk features fine camellias and myrtles. Throughout the garden a rich patina of moss, liches, ferns and saxifrages cover rocks, paths and tree trunks, giving a sub-tropical feeling to the whole area. History: First planted by Lord Lansdowne after he succeeded to the title in 1866 and completed by his grand-daughter, Lady Mersey in the 1950's.
