| There are many fine plants in this garden including camellias, dwarf Japanese stone pines planted in stone troughs, a collection of curling stones and querns, sundials and a stepping stone pool. The Japanese-influenced garden occupies about a third of the garden, the remainder is an informal Scots garden containing beautiful plants, a varied collection of bulbs, early hellebores, snowdrops and an interesting collection of ferns. The many walls are festooned with climbers. There is something of interest all year round. The recently restored glasshouse is being used as a display house for extra surnmer interest, mature arched trees are complimented by attractive ground cover. Small troughs and containers can be found through this interesting compact garden, which is situated along the banks of the River Dee. |

| History of Garden | ||||||
| The House was built in early 18th century for the Murrays of Broughton and Cally. E. A. Hornel (1864 -1933) purchased the property and turned part of it into his studio. He was reputed to have landscaped the garden to resemble a Japanese sanctuary, filling it with beautiful flowers which he loved, many coming from Japan. The Trust took on the property in 1997 and have been developing the garden in sympathy with Hornel's original ideas. | ||||||
