 Description of Garden
Designer: Sir Harry Veitch
This Rothschild house and garden is famous for its superb Victorian design which includes wide lawns, spectacular trees and amazing topiary, especially the extraordinary sundial with its gnomon in yew and Roman numerals in box. Lovely views over the Vale of Aylesbury present themselves here and there between the cedars. Formal beds, a Long Walk, new statuary and a wild garden complement the design.
 History of Garden
Owned by Leopold de Rothschild after he acquired it from his brother, Baron Nathan Meyer in 1876 and gifted to the National Trust by Anthony de Rothschild in 1949.
